Kibera Visit - Teaching Conference

Today we briefly visited the Kibera slum and their WEEP Center, then we went over to Ngong for a women's teaching conference.  We had an opportunity to see Dandora slum & Ngong slum earlier in the week, and Kibera really was the worst of them all.  Amazing to know that families call this place home and communities actually have a habitat here.

We were dropped off at the top where many store fronts are and we were told the bus could not drive down to the WEEP Center.  When we made the hike down, we realized why... The road is narrow and is mounds of garbage, with raw sewage/drainage running down the sides of the road.  It is a sight and smell that you can't quite describe.  Very humbling, shocking, and sad!

We've gotten to know these ladies over the week and our hearts break knowing that this is where they live.  No one should have to live in these conditions.  This is their normal!

After hiking back out of Kibera (think huge bowl community), we were off to Ngong for a Women's teaching conference.  Charmain, Sara, Bonnie, and Jeanne all shared on topics of studying God's word, forming a small group, how to be the mom God created you to be, and faith & trust.  The ladies well received the talks these our team gave.

At the end of the conference the ladies all received conference goodie bags that had a copy of Jesus calling, and they were most excited for the pen, candy, and sunglasses!!! Too funny the little things that  they were excited about.
